Big fan of Rick Stein: particularly his style of unattended cooking. Bang something in the oven, pop out for a swim. With that in mind, made a batch of sticky buns – started last night, shaped them this morning and had a run while they rose. Set the oven to preheat while taking a quick rinse in the ocean. Adjusted the topping slightly to use up odds and ends from other holiday meals: toasted some coconut and oats to pad out the pecan mixture. Added the zest & juice of a nondescript citrus from a roadside stall rather than cream to the syrup. Travelled with a packet of Christmas pudding spice, so tipped the last of that into the butter filling, too.
